Managing Agents

Managing Agents

The Agents section in Symba Portal lets you designate existing Microbanking clients as agents and manage their status. Agents maintain a pre-funded float account and act as cash-in/cash-out points for other clients via USSD.

Prerequisites

Before designating a client as an agent, your organization's Symba Portal configuration must include:

  • An agent identifier type in the Customer Identifier code values. This is managed via the Microbanking Setup section of the portal.
  • A float account savings product in the savings products configuration. This is also managed via Microbanking Setup.

Contact your Symba Global administrator if these are not yet configured.

Designating a client as an agent

  1. In Symba Portal, go to Agents and click Add Agent.
  2. Search for the client by name or account number.
  3. Select the client from the results. The portal verifies that the client exists and is active in Symba Microbanking.
  4. Click Create Agent. The portal automatically assigns a unique identifier code to the client and records it on their Symba Microbanking account.

After saving, a dedicated float savings account is automatically opened for the agent using the configured float account product.

Funding the float account

The agent's float account must be funded before they can process transactions. Deposits can be made via:

  • Cash deposit through the Symba Microbanking savings deposit workflow
  • Mobile money deposit through Symba Payments

The agent's available float balance is checked before every outgoing transfer. Insufficient balance causes the transaction to be rejected.

Managing existing agents

The Agents list shows all agents for the selected office with their identifier code and current float balance. From this list you can:

  • View an agent's transaction history
  • Deactivate an agent by removing their agent identifier and closing their float account directly in Symba Microbanking. This removes their access to the Agent Services USSD menu.
