Fee schedule templates

Fee schedule templates

A fee schedule template defines a reusable fee structure. Templates contain one or more fee rules that specify which transactions trigger a fee and how the fee amount is calculated. Once a template is created, it can be applied to any number of savings or loan accounts.

Creating a fee schedule template

Prerequisites

For fee rules that charge a fee to the account, you need a charge type configured in Symba Microbanking. Charge types determine how the fee is recorded. Verify that the required charge types exist before creating the template.

Steps

  • Log in to Symba Payments with a user account authorized to manage fee schedule templates.
  • Click Fees in the sidebar.
  • Click Create Fee Schedule Template.
  • Enter a Name for the template. An optional Description helps identify its intended use.
  • Select a Schedule type. This determines whether fees are charged to the account or credited to it, and which transaction types are available. The schedule type cannot be changed after creation.
    • Savings Charges — fees charged to savings accounts (withdrawal, deposit). Mobile money transfers sent from a savings account are processed as withdrawals and trigger withdrawal fee rules.
    • Loan Charges — fees charged to loan accounts (disbursement, repayment)
    • Agent Commissions — fees credited to agent float accounts (withdrawal, deposit, disbursement, repayment)
  • Add one or more fee rules using the fee rule editor:
    • Transaction types — select the types this rule applies to. The available types depend on the schedule type selected above. Leave empty to match all applicable transaction types.
    • Payment methods — select the payment methods this rule applies to (cash, mobile money). Leave empty to match all methods.
    • Providers — select specific payment providers this rule applies to (for example, a specific mobile money provider). Leave empty to match all providers.
    • Charge type — for fees charged to the account (savings charges and loan charges), select the charge type from Symba Microbanking. Not applicable for agent commissions.
    • Fee rates — add one or more fee rates for this rule (see below).
  • Click Save.

The template is saved and is available when creating fee schedules in Symba Microbanking.

Fee rules

Rules are evaluated from top to bottom. The first rule that matches the transaction is applied — the remaining rules are skipped. Place more specific rules above more general ones. For example, a rule for cash deposits should appear above a general rule that matches all deposits.

Use the drag handles to reorder rules after adding them.

Fee rates

Each fee rule contains one or more fee rates that define the calculation for different transaction amount ranges. Rates are also evaluated in order — the first rate whose upper limit is greater than or equal to the transaction amount is applied.

For each rate, configure:

  • Maximum amount — optional upper limit for this amount band. Leave empty on the final rate to match all remaining amounts.
  • Percentage — the fee as a percentage of the transaction amount.
  • Flat amount — a fixed fee amount added regardless of the transaction amount.
  • Minimum fee — optional. If the calculated fee is below this amount, it is raised to the minimum.
  • Maximum fee — optional. If the calculated fee exceeds this amount, it is capped at the maximum.

At least one of Percentage or Flat amount must be greater than zero. Both can be combined — the fee is the sum of the percentage component and the flat amount.

Editing a fee schedule template

  • Log in to Symba Payments with a user account authorized to manage fee schedule templates.
  • Click Fees in the sidebar.
  • Click the name of the template you want to edit.
  • Make the required changes and click Save.

Editing a template does not change any fee schedules that have already been created from it. Existing schedules continue to use the rules and rates that were in effect when the schedule was created.
